Choir Competition

On Friday night, I participated in my very first competition. I was looking forward to it

for a while. When we were on the bus, we had to do our hair, makeup, and dress. It was a mess

because we were bumping into each other. It was fun because I had to help other girls do their

hair and makeup. We went to go eat and then when we got back, we had to touch up on

everything. After we were done, we got into the theater and the competition started!

We watched the other groups choirs (women’s choirs) first. I felt they did a good job

singing while they were dancing because they were still singing really loud even though they

had less people than us. One high school had a costume change and I thought that was really

cool. Another high school did a good job because they did a skit sort of thing that I liked. It was

really fun watching the other choirs that have worked the same amount of time for the

competition but I couldn’t wait until our turn!

When everyone stood up, my heart was pounding. We went inside the room and

practiced our songs. Then the girls from Alta Loma High School told us that they were ready for

us to hit the stage. Everybody went on the stage and we performed the best that we could. I

didn’t mess up even thought somebody hit me in the face. I just kept smiling and pretended like

nothing happened and went on with the show. I’m sad we didn’t get placed but I know that if

we practice a little harder, we could surely get a placing.

What I think we could do to improve is that we could practice a little in the theater

because that way we could see how much louder we would need to be. We also could practice

the dance a little more with third period because that way we won’t be bumping into each

other because my friend told me that she fell during one of the transitions into another song.

The other choirs had parts in their songs where the audience clapped and we didn’t have any of

those. Well, we don’t need that, but I think it would wake the audience up and it would be

more interesting. Overall, I think we did a pretty great job!
