Human Body Unit Descriptor

The unit on the ‘Human Body’ provided opportunities for the children to explore
the life processes for survival as evidence for why the human body is a functioning
organism. This exploration eventually led them to the study of specific functions of
body organs that belong to a particular body system which helped them see the
connections of one organ to another and one body system to another. The children
were able to understand the interconnectedness and functions of the body parts
to the various systems and to the human body as a whole through observation,
research, comparison, and analyses of individual and group shared responses.  The
students investigated the issues dealing with the human body faced in society.

Biodiversity Unit Descriptor

This unit led to the students’ understanding that biodiversity relies on maintaining
the interdependent balance of organisms within systems. They inquired into the
interdependence within ecosystems, ways in which organisms are interconnected in
nature and how human interaction with the environment can affect the balance of
systems. In so doing, they researched the different major biomes in the world
focusing on their features/characteristics, locations, how are these biomes
interrelated and flora and fauna. They also inquired on the different major
ecosystems that we have in the Philippines. This gave them the opportunity to look
at how the different organisms are interconnected in nature. They read news
articles pertaining to the different threats to their assigned ecosystems where
they clearly saw the effect of an imbalance system.
