While historically and culturally, we have reached no agreement on what it means to be


Indian, we seem to have decided along the way that, whatever it might be, everyone has
got to be one. And while the ways in which each of us have been asked to show our
Indianness have changed over the years, the last decade has seen some pretty significant
changes.
For one, the ball of ‘citizenship’ has been deftly passed on from the state to the media.
