PREFACE

This workbook covers all the core topics of Science and Technology IV. We
believe that Physics, as a science, can be best learned by students through engaging
themselves into activities that ensure the development of their higher order thinking
skills. This workbook contains activities in which the outline of the topics is compliant to
the new Basic Education Curriculum.

All activities in this workbook are designed to enhance students’ skills particularly
in knowledge, comprehension, application, critical-thinking/analysis, synthesis, and
evaluation.

Each activity begins with the INTRODUCTION which gives the background
information about the topic. The OBJECTIVE part provides students the idea of what to
expect from them while doing the activity. The CONCEPT part highlights the major
ideas, key terms, and some illustrations necessary to perform the activity. The
ACTIVITY part includes two or more challenge exercises that require students’
cognitive skills. This part measures the students’ comprehensive and integrated
understanding of the concepts, principles, and processes of Physics. There are also
activities dedicated to the development and assessment of student’s ability to gather facts
and answer real-life problems through the help of available resources such as journals,
newspapers, textbooks, and websites.

This workbook is also written for the teachers. The activities are easily
recognizable as extensions to classroom lessons. Thus, we encourage the teachers to use
this workbook to facilitate their students’ learning. Still, the final choice and number of
activities to be performed by the students are on the teacher’s prerogative. Nevertheless,
we will be grateful if both the students and teachers will maximize the use of this
workbook. Indeed, having fun in learning Physics is one of our goals in doing this
workbook.
