Hip Hop Stroke™ is a school-based stroke education program, funded by the

National Institutes of Health that uses hip hop music, cartoons, and video
games to deliver complex stroke knowledge to New York City 3rd-6th graders.
Student participants are taught important concepts, including stroke
localization, stroke symptom recognition, and to immediately call 911 when
stroke is suspected. Through a “child-mediated intervention” approach,
children are responsible with teaching their parents or caregivers this
important information. Stroke knowledge pre and post tests are delivered to
both student participants and their parents to determine program efficacy.

The practicum student will work with the Hip Hop Stroke™ team to develop a
research question of interest, and he/she will be supported through all stages
of the research process.

Responsibilities will include authoring an IRB protocol, collecting and

analyzing data, and developing and implementing the research procedures.

Interested students may use data for thesis purposes.

Research engagement and manuscript authorship will be an objective for

persons in this position.

Requirements:

Candidate must be proficient with SAS/SPSS and be willing to participate in

community-based health promotion programs. Experience with data
management is preferred. No medical experience is required.
