Dell Extended Battery Life

Dell™ Extended Battery Life provides options to derive the maximum backup time from your
battery.

You can enable Dell Extended Battery Life by clicking Enable.

NOTE: Dell Extended Battery Life takes effect only when your computer is running on the
battery, even though it can be enabled while the computer is connected to an electrical outlet.
NOTE: Check the check box to keep Dell Extended Battery Life enabled even after rebooting
the computer.

Clicking the Settings button opens the Dell Extended Battery Life Advanced Settings screen,
where you can configure the following options:

NOTE: Dell Extended Battery Life has to be disabled to access the advanced options. If the
Settings button is greyed out, disable Dell Extended Battery Life and then click Settings.

Change power plan to Power Saver — select this option to change the power scheme to Power
Saver, which helps you to get the maximum backup time from your battery.

Switch color scheme to Windows Vista Basic or

Switch color scheme to Windows 7 Basic — select this option to disable the visual
enhancements in Windows Vista ®and Windows® 7, like the Aero interface.

Turn off Windows Sidebar — select this option to disable the Windows Sidebar.

NOTE: The following features may not be available on certain computers.

Enable audio power management — select this option to put the audio devices into a power
saving mode.

Power off optical drive — select this option to turn off your optical drive like a CD/DVD drive. To
re-enable the optical drive, connect your computer to an electrical outlet.

NOTE: The Power off optical drive option is not available until User Account Control is turned
off. To turn off User Account Control, see Turning Off User Account Control.

Enable Intel DPST — select this option to turn on the Intel ® Display Power Saving Technology
(DPST), which significantly reduces the power consumed by your display.

To restore the default Dell Extended Battery Life settings, click Restore default settings.

Turning Off User Account Control


Windows Vista

1. Click Control PanelUser Accounts and Family SafetyUser


AccountsTurn User Account Control on or off.
2. Click to clear the check mark next to Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect
your computer.

3. Click OK and when prompted, restart the computer.

Windows 7

1. Click Control PanelUser Accounts and Family SafetyUser


AccountsChange User Account Control settings

2. Move the slide bar down to the bottom to Never notify.

3. Click OK and when prompted, restart the computer.
