CHAPTER 1: TheWorld Through

Our Senses
key concept: sensory organs and their functions.

= detect (stimuli) pass to brain (interpretion) and necessery action.

Sensory Organ stimulus sense

a) eye light sight

b) tongue chemical substance taste

c) ear sound hearing

d) nose chemical vapour smell

e) skin touch, pressure,pain,heat,cold touch

key concept: The Flow of Impulss Through The Nerves

sensory organ (receptor) to nerve to brain to nerve to muscles (effector) to

response

key concept: skin

1. the skin is the sensory organ of touch.

2. the skin responds to heat, cold, pressure, touch, and pain stimuli.

a. pain receptor: sensitive to pain

b. touch receptor: sensitive to touch

c. heat receptor: sensitive to heat

d.cold receptor: sensitive to cold

e. pressure receptor: sensitive to pressure

The sensitivity of the skin depends on the:

a. thickness of the epidermis

=The thinner the epidermiss, the more sensitive the skin is to
the stimulus.

b. number of receptor present

= the more receptor found in the skin, the more sensitive is

that part of the skin.

key concept: nose

1. The nose is the sensory organ of smell.

2. cells that are sensitive to smell ( smell receptor ) are found at the
top of the nasal caviti.

=nostrill to nasal cavity to mucous to smell receptor to nerve to

brain.

key concept: tongue
