SHOT FIRED AT POLICE OFFICERS

At 6:30 pm on March 29, 2011, the Grand Rapids Police were sent to the 900 block of E.
Fulton Street on a disturbance involving a dozen juveniles. Upon arrival, the officers
observed several juveniles in the parking lot behind the businesses. As the officers
approached, the juveniles began to flee towards Fulton Street. While fleeing, one of the
suspects pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed the weapon at the officers
and fired one shot. The officers were not injured.

The suspect dropped the firearm on the sidewalk and continued to flee south across
Fulton street between the houses with the officers in pursuit. The weapon has been
recovered.

The suspect was apprehended near Baldwin St. and Dwight Av. SE. The 14 year-old
juvenile suspect is being held in the Juvenile Detention Center on charges of Assault
with Intent to Commit Murder. The case will be reviewed by the Kent County
Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday March 30, 2011.
