Tutorial Lesson 4 – Section Domes

Section Dome Sweep

** For reasons of illustration and to facilitate these tutorial datum-curves have been prepared in the
models for this section. Datum-curves are not necessary to create these features. **

** To begin, retrieve part “SEC_DOME_SWP.PRT”. **

FILE Menu: #Open, <SECTION_DOME_SWP.PRT>, #Open

MODEL TREE: #Show, #Layer Tree…, [unhide the 04_DATUM_CURVES layer],# to
close the Layer Tree (you can use to open and close the Layer Tree)

** You should now see the model as shown in the following image. **

** To create a “Swept Section Dome”. **

INSERT Menu: #Advanced, #Section Dome, #Sweep, #One Profile, #Done

SCREEN: Select the Front Face to be domed

** Select the bottom for the sketching plane and the front face for the “TOP” sketching reference. **

SCREEN: Select the Bottom Face as the Sketching Plane, #Okay, #Default
SKETCH Menu: #Edge, #Use

** Select the appropriate datum-curve entities, click check mark to complete sketch. **

SKETCH Menu: #Done

** Select the right-side face for the sketching plane and the front face for the “TOP” sketching reference.

SCREEN: Select Right Face, #Okay, #Top, Select Front Face

SKETCH Menu: #Edge, Use

** Select the appropriate datum-curve entities and complete the sketch. **

Points of note:
The sketches do not need to intersect.
Section and profile sketches must be perpendicular.
Sketches must be open-section.
The dome is applied to the entire selected surface.
The resultant surface is a mathematical average between the profile and section
sketches.
