Definition of Mating
Mating is the
pairing of
opposite gender
organisms to
reproduce
offspring.
Purpose of Mating
Mating is used
to produce more
of s species,
lessen the
chance of
extinction, and
to provide more
variety in a
species.
Time of Mating
Mating occurs
everyday of the year,
however most
mating occurs in the
spring months
because of
availability to provide
a good environment
for the offspring.
Observation 1
In Observation 1, the birds all
ascend from the high tree
tops into the air in a V-
shaped formation. They
continued to fly together in a
large flock. The birds moved
from one location to another,
migrating to a new ecosystem
to possibly find new food and
a place for breeding.

In observation 2,
the turtles hatch
from their eggs and
immediately move
toward the sea,
migrating into the
ocean where they
continue to swim
out into the sea
until they reach a
livable area
suitable for life.

Fish Mating
Fish mate
internally
through sexual
reproduction.
Fish lay jelly-
like eggs in a
place suitable
for birth of
their offspring.
Amphibian Mating
Amphibians mate internally
through sexual
reproduction and lay eggs.
Amphibians eggs are laid
in the water and when
they hatch, the
amphibians grow until
adult hood through a
process called
metamorphosis.
Mammal Mating
Mammals mate
internally through
sexual reproduction.
Some mammals,
such as platypus, lay
eggs. Most however
reproduce live young.
Reptile Mating
Reptiles mate
internally
through sexual
reproduction
and lay eggs in
places
appropriate for
the hatching
offspring.
Bird Mating
Birds mate
internally
through
sexual
reproduction.
Birds lay
eggs.
