Cleaning up Startup:
When you turn on your computer you may notice that it is slow to start. When a computer
boots up, it runs through its start up process. With this includes several programs that
are usually configured to start automatically, so you do not need to start them manually.

We begin with
pressing Start
and then
selecting run
Type in MSCONFIG:
Which stands for Microsoft System
Configuration Utility.

Select the services tab.

When you are at the services tab
under MSCONFIG, it may be hard to
tell what each service is. If you go
back to Start, then select run, type
in SERVICES.MSC, then select OK.

The following Screen will

appear
Once there press ctrl +
F. This will allow the
find box to appear.
Once it comes up, enter
the service you are
trying to find.

If you highlight over the

service you are looking for.
Look over to the right hand
left hand side and you will
see a description of the
service listed.
Note: you can disable the
services in here as well as
under the service tab in
MSCONFIG.
Now after exiting out of
the services
configuration, go back
to msconfig and select
the Startup tab. This is
where you make
changes to items that
begin when the
computer boots up.

Select the services you

want to disable on startup.
Then click on Apply. You
will then need to restart
your computer for settings
to take effect.
Systems Tools
Under the System Tools
you can choose two
options to clean up your
machine. The first option
is Disk Defragmenter. To
get to it. Select Start,
then Accessories, then
click on System Tools.

Once you have selected

Disk Defragmenter, the
following box will appear.
Click on Analyze:
Once it is done Analyzing,

the process.

the following box will
appear. Select Close.

calculate how
much space you
can free from
your hard drive.

Once that process is completed, you will

then select which files you want to delete
and press OK. When highlighted over each
file a description is given below. Please
confirm you wish to delete these before
proceeding.
You will then be prompted for
permission to proceed. Click yes if
you are sure.

The process will now start. When

completed, close the box. It can
take anywhere from 10 minutes
to over an hour depending on
how much information is being
deleted.
Software:

One good free

program is Ccleaner.
If you go to
Download.com and
type in Ccleaner, you
can then select the
program shown.
If running Firefox you will
click save file, if on IE, you
will be asked to run or save
the file.
Select save.

Once it has been downloaded to your

computer, double click on the file and
