dynapolis [definition]

The "Dynapolis" idea of C. A. Doxiadis.(A city that has a constant growth in its' dimentions.
This first occured starting in the XVIII century.)Doxiadis' point of departure is, interestingly
enough, also the dream-like essence of the city. But, to him, the dream is a bad dream, a
nightmare: "It does not matter whether we look at our cities from the air when we see their
irrational plan, from a car on highway or a congested street, as pedestrians on a busy sidewalk or
from the inside or outside of a block of buildings; we always have the same impression of living
in nightmare" (Doxiadis, AT, p. 19).To Doxiadis the urban nightmare has led to an architectural
confusion that calls for remedies, one of them being the application of the "Dynapolis" idea.
