INTRODUCTION
Hello all you STARGATE / Lego fans out there! Since the display of the Lego STARGATE diorama
at the Toronto Trek 18 convention this year (2004), I have had lots of people ask me how it was
built. Here is a set of step by step instructions on how to make one of your own. These
instructions are for my fourth incarnation of the Lego STARGATE, the first three prototypes were
abysmal in comparison.
B STARGATE
C M.A.L.P., with 6 wheels and extendible robotic arm
D Command Centre (with optional missile turret, not documented)
E Gun turret
F SG-1 Team in green camouflage gear, including vests and arm patches with proper team number
G Teal’c with head tattoo (but no hair, inspired from pre-season 8 episodes)
I SG-11 Team in dessert gear, including arm patches with proper team number
J Jaffa with armour vests & skirts, cobra head gear and staff weapons (to scale)
K General Hammond in dress uniform
My goal in building the STARGATE was to create it using as many standard Lego pieces as possible,
keeping pieces needing modifications to a minimum. The STARGATE itself is primarily made up of
stock Lego pieces. The only modifications are the chevron’s, being 2x3 roof / slope pieces with a
printout glued on. The rest of the STARGATE, ramp, command centre, etc… are all standard Lego
pieces found in various sets.
The mini-figures are all modifications in some fashion. The simplest being a vest printed and glued
to the torso (e.g. Daniel Jackson), more complex being the Jaffa cobra armour.
The set as a whole is made of over 515 individual Lego pieces (not including mini-figures). A
complete listing is found at the end of this document.
Unfortunately, lego.com only sells select pieces on-line, and selection varies (they change their
catalogue a few times a year). Most of the pieces used came from the Sith Infiltrator set
(purchased thanks to a great sale at Home Hardware a few years ago, only $9.95 each!). Other
than that, I honestly cannot tell you where the other pieces came from, all my Lego sets are all
mixed together at this point.
Inspiration for this set came from the STARGATE TV series, the best on-line STARGATE resource
- Gateworld (http://www.gateworld.net/) as well as a great on-line STARGATE costuming and prop
web site, SG-Command.net (http://www.sg-command.net/).
I also want to pass along thanks to all the folks involved with Ldraw (www.ldraw.org). Ldraw is the
open standard software I used to create the 3D models shown in these instructions. Without it, I
would have been stuck creating Lego pieces in Photoshop (shudder!)
Jason R. Charette
AWARDS
The Lego STARGATE set was entered into the Model Show and Contest at Toronto Trek 18, a fan
run Science-Fiction And Fantasy convention held annually in Toronto (http://www.tcon.icomm.ca/ ).
It won three awards :
The Lego STARGATE instructions have been divided into six sections. The major sections are
shown whereas some of the detailing is not present. For example, the computer consoles to be used
in the Command Centre. I will leave details such as those up to your imagination. The documented
sections are :
1. STARGATE and support struts (in blue)
2. Ramp (in red)
3. Command Centre (in green)
4. Gun Turret (in purple)
not highlighted)
The STARGATE and support struts can be further sub-divided into 8 sections :
A. Chevron module (in blue, repeats 7 times)
B. Non-Chevron module (in red, repeats 6 times)
C. Right bottom chevron with floor attachment (in pink)
D. Left bottom chevron with floor attachment (in yellow)
E. Right floor support (in green)
F. Left floor support (in light blue)
Once each section has been assembled, they are combined to form the STARGATE and its support
struts.

Print, cut out and glue the Chevron decals to each of the 7 sections. The Chevron decal seen here is
approximately the right scale. If it does not print correctly, print the graphic
“Lego_Chevron_Template.bmp” available in the Zip file these instructions were found in. The line
between points A and B should measure 0.8 inches.
Note, the Chevron decal is not shown on any of the 3D models in these instructions, but should be
there in real life.

Follow the instructions for the basic SG team member in green camo
outfit.
Add the head of a surfer (for the sunglasses, Lego set #) and blond hair.
Print a colour copy of the SG-1 arm decals shown below. The decals seen
here are approximately the right scale. If they does not print correctly,
print the graphics “SG_Project_Patch_Regular_To_Print.bmp” and
“SG_Team_Patch_Regular_To_Print.bmp” available in the Zip file these
instructions were found in. The line between points A and B should
measure 0.125 inches (Yes, that small!) When you are printing, simply
specify the whole image be 0.125 inches wide.
Using a sharp pair of scissors or an Exacto knife, cut out and glue the
patches. The SG-1 Team patch goes on the right arm, the SG Project
patch goes on the left.

TEAL’C
Follow the instructions for the basic SG team member in green camo
outfit.
Teal’c’s head starts out as a Star Wars Imperial Pilot, found in the Tie
Fighter set (Lego set #7146). Any brown head will do, I just had this
one lying around. I don’t know why the Imperial Pilot mini-figure comes
with a brown head, considering it is 100% covered with the helmet, but I
am not going to complain as brown head is needed here.
Using gold and black plastic model paint, add the eyes, mouth and tattoo.
Note, no nose is needed, they are not usually found on Lego mini-figures.

WALTER DAVIS
Begin with the Han Solo mini-figure from the Dessert Skiff set (set
#7104). The white arms & chest piece are needed, as is the little bit of
yellow under the chin (but on the chest piece).
Remove the head piece. Replace the leg pieces with any that are light
blue in colour.
Print a colour copy of the vest decal shown below. The decal seen here is
approximately the right scale. If it does not print correctly, print the
graphic “Walter_Davis_Vest.bmp” available in the Zip file these
instructions were found in. The line between points A and B should
measure 1.5 inches.
Using a sharp pair of scissors or an Exacto knife, cut out the vest and

Attach vest to the front of the mini-figure using a glue stick. Attach
one arm patch to each arm (the are identical for each arm).

Add the head, using any Lego head which has both glasses and a
microphone headset.
JAFFA WARRIOR
Use the head of a Green Goblin mini-figure (Lego set #1374). This will
ultimately become the head of the Cobra armour.
I was lucky, the Lego sets were clearanced at a local Zellers for $3.50
each so I had the opportunity to buy lots and experiment,

Using sharp scissors or an Exacto knife, cut the nose off the Green
Goblin mask. Cover the face with modeling putty. Turn around and fill in
the area under the back lip. Let dry.
Once completely dry, sand the moulding putty so the face of the mask is
smooth, and the area under the back lip is even with the sides.
Mount the mask on a Bobba Fett mini-figure (Lego set #7144). The mask
is mounted on backwards, with what was once the Green Goblin’s face
pointing towards the back.
Paint the mask and Bobba Fett head piece grey, using a plastic model
paint to match the grey of the Bobba Fett mini-figure.
Once the grey paint is dry, use red plastic model paint to add the evil
glowing red eyes to both sides of the mini-figure.
