While they help break down wood debris in nature, termites live in large colonies of up to 60,000 insects and can destroy more homes than hurricanes. There are over 2600 species of termites and 4000 types of ants that live in social groups and care for their young. Some ant and termite species can bite and inject painful acid into human skin. When threatened, some termites and ants will even explode or squirt sticky glue to protect their colony.
