Ginger Decavitch Core 8-2 Science Lesson Plans

Learning Targets Week April 4-8


Mon: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the organization of the Periodic Table and how it
relates to properties of an element.
Tues: Students will determine if a chemical change or a physical change has occurred while combining 2
compounds.
Wed: Students will Bohr diagram an ionic bond and a covalent bond. Students will research and
produce a mini- poster presentation of an element.
Thurs: Students will identify elements by their properties on the Periodic Table. Students will research
and produce a mini- poster presentation of an element.
Fri: Students will research and produce a mini- poster presentation of an element.

What students will do:


Mon: Notes on “Properties of Matter”. Concept map of isotope, atom, element and substance. Clicker
Quiz, “Elements and the Periodic Table”. Watch demonstration of properties of matter. Review
worksheet, “More about elements and compounds”.
Tues: Mixed Reaction Lab and graph, question sheet.
Wed: Bonding of Atoms worksheet. Begin working on the Element Mini-Poster Project .
Thurs: Chemical Pursuit Board Game. Element Mini-Poster Project.
Fri: Complete Element Mini-Poster Project.

How students will be accessed on their learning


Mon: Clicker Quiz, Elements and the Periodic Table”. Review worksheet on the Periodic Table.
Tues: Graph and Wrap-up Questions from lab.
Wed: Poster requirements listed.
Thursday : Chemical Board Questions.
Fri: Poster requirements completed.
