Title: APPLICATION OF RESIN WITOUT SOFTNER ON WOOVEN AND KNITTED FABRIC

Tasks

 To learn application of resin.

 To find properties of after treated fabric such as:
 Wrinkle recovery
 Tear strength
 Shrinkage %age

Route

Pad è Dry è Cure

Materials and equipments

 Weighing balance
 Beakers
 Stirrers
 Graduated cylinder
 Padder
 Dryer

Chemicals used

 Fixapert ECO (DMDHEU based resin)

 MgCl2

Recipe

 Resin = 100 g/L

 MgCl2 (catalyst) = 20 g/L
Procedure

1. Required chemicals were weighed.

2. All chemicals were diluted separately in beakers.
3. Chemicals were mixed and beaker was filled up to 1 liter.
4. Knitted and woven fabrics were padded separately.
5. Fabrics were dried at 120oC for 90 sec.
6. Fabrics were cured at 170oC for 90 sec.

L1= Original dimension

L2= dimension after boiling in water at 60 0C for 12 minutes

Conclusion

1. After application of crosslinking agent tear strength was reduced because of cross linking
of fiber polymer chains.
2. Resin finish resists water to interact with fiber polymer chains so it resists shrinkage, that
is why shrinkage is very low.

Abstract

Durable press finishes can be defined as those chemicals used to improve the properties and
performance of washable fabrics. Resin finish second mostly use finish in textiles. It crosslinks
the polymer chain and resist them to slide across eachother imparting durable press features and
shrink resitance at the expense of strength loss and yellowing of fabric.
