Audible exists to bring about change in our communities through fusion of sustainability and social cause with art

work together to rebuild our communities, revive our economy and save our planet.

Our thinking:

In ‘the Green-Collar Economy’, Van Jones makes the case that the best way to revive our ailing economy is to save
our planet, by connecting the work that most needs to be done with the people that most need work...
Inspired by this idea, the Dream Reborn conference was called ‘a gathering to celebrate the life of Dr. King by
presenting positive solutions for social and environmental equity.’ Held in Memphis in 2008, the purpose and
focus of the event was to ‘seed the movement that will create ecological solutions to heal the earth while bringing
jobs, justice, wealth and health to all our communities.’

Other conferences like it have championed this cause, providing the movement a space where people can go to
learn more, network with like-minded individuals and get involved...

And yet, as successful as these conferences have been, as popular as New York Times bestseller ‘The Green Collar
Economy’ is, less progress than necessary has been made in building the economy we’re all talking about creating.

Perhaps this is because of the of how we’re talking about creating it.

Those who would most benefit from attending events and reading books like these might not have the resources
to do either. And so, we’re excluding from the discussion the very audience this idea is supposed to be reaching.

Perhaps we should change the way we channel these messages.

In the 1960’s, activists sat-in at lunch counters across the south in protest of racial discrimination that plagued our
country. Through non-violent demonstration, they proved that change in this world could be made peaceably.

50 years later, we have new problems built upon similar obstacles; perhaps we should look to the past for inspi-
ration as we endeavor to overcome them.

The Woolworth’s it once set in is since gone, replaced by this space:

Now known as the Woolworth lot, this green building and surrounding parkspace are located in the middle of
Main Street in Central Durham.

which is right next to this space:

Called CCB Plaza, this central piazza is symbolic of the city and serves as a community gathering post.

Audible’s next project will unfold in three parts over the next month.
