Freedom Center, eBay to create ‘engagement’ program Cincinnati Business Courier -2:52 PM EDT Tuesday ‘The eBay Foundation has committed $1.25 million to create an online community engagement initiative in partnership with the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. “The eBay Foundation Community Engagement Program aims to inspire individuals and volunteer groups to take action against the six "unfreedoms" of racism, hunger, illiteracy, tyranny, genocide and slavery, the two groups said in a Tuesday press conference. The eBay money will go into a fund at the Freedom Center to support the effort. ‘The program will include: = AWeb site, at www freedomeenter.org, to engage visitors, promote dialogue and encourage them to take action in their communities; ‘= A blog area to build awareness of, and give progress reports on the initiative; = Registering 20,000 volunteer "conductors" to work on community action; = Naming 30 local agencies as "Freedom Stations," and adding agencies in 10 additional cities in 2007 and 2008; ‘= Partnering with the University of Cincinnati to produce a youth summit on volunteerism, to be held Nov. 5; and = Hiring a chief officer for community engagement to lead online and face-to-face efforts.
