Harlem Renaissance Project

Basic Project information:

• You will be working alone or with one partner

• You will receive an individual grade, even if you work with a partner

• You will be in the library on April 7, 8, 19, 20 to work

• You will be presenting in the library on April 21

• You will be creating either a poster or a PowerPoint AND one original piece

Rubric:

_____/ 25 points Written portion of poster or PPT must include the following:

_____2. An explanation (in your own words) about why your topic is important to the
Harlem

Renaissance

_____3. An explanation of how your topic provided for change within the African-American

community.

_____4. An explanation of how the influence of your topic is still reflected in today’s
society.

_____ / 25 points Visual portion of poster or PPT

_____1. Finished product is visually impressive.

_____2. Finished produce demonstrates effort and creativity.

_____ / 20 points An original piece (completed by YOU) is turned in or performed along with
your poster

or PPT

-This may be a poem, essay, reflection journal, song, performance, etc.

-You may polish up a piece you have created in class and use this as your original piece.

-You will receive 20 points of extra credit for performing your piece for the class on April
21.

_____/10 points A response to the presentations on April 21 (handout to follow)

Library Schedule:

_____April 7: Complete general research about topic; find background information; answer
questions 1 and 2. (You will be using both books and computers for research.)
_____April 8: Work on researching and answering questions 3 and 4.

_____April 18: Find pictures/images for slides and work on final draft or writing.

_____April 19 and 20: Complete poster/PPT and original piece

_____April 21: Presentations
