Star Counts
The Star Counts reading program is a school wide reading incentive program.
Students are encouraged to read within their tested reading section. Once they’ve
read a book, they may take a comprehension test to see how well they’ve
understood the book. Teachers set up individual goals for each child based on
ability levels.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Book Fair
The Ramey Media Center and the Parent Teacher Student Organization
sponsor one book fair a year with the proceeds going to various needs
throughout the school year.
CURRENT MEDIA CENTER POLICY
Accessibility
Media Center is available for student and teacher use throughout each
instructional day of school
Ramey Media Center’s hours of operation are 7:50-2:45 for students and
7:30-3:30 for teachers and staff
Books are loaned for a two week period-students are not fined for overdue
books
67% felt that Star Counts tests should be taken in a separate area away
from the other computers
88% felt that the Media Specialist could use a full time assistant
MEDIA CENTER IMPRESSIONS
The Media Center is located at the front of the school campus. It is always busy and bustling
with activity. The Star Counts Reading program is a large reason for the activity.
There is a large column and 4 conference/office areas that block the Media Specialist’s view of
the stacks. The rearrangement of furniture, shelving, and the office areas will be moved in the
new plan in order for the Media Specialist to have a clear view of all areas of the center.
Due to the Media Specialist’s flexible schedule and meeting the needs of the students and
teachers from K-12 there is little time for teacher collaboration.
FACILITY CHANGES
Move conference/office area rooms
Move the Media Center’s 24 computers from regular long tables to round
