HOME WORK II

PART- A
1) Assume that a loudspeaker broadcasts sound equally in all directions
and produces sound with a level of 103 dB at a distance of 1.60 m from its
center. (a) Find its sound power output. (b) If the salesperson claims to be
giving you 150 W per channel, he is referring to the electrical power input to
the speaker. Find the efficiency of the speaker—that is, the fraction of input
power that is converted into useful output power.

2) Two pulses A and B are moving in opposite directions along a taut string
with a speed of 2.00 cm/s. The amplitude of A is twice the amplitude of B.
The pulses at t = 0(as in fig).Sketch the shape of the string at t = 1, 1.5, 2,
2.5, and 3 s.

3) A string with a mass of 8.00 g and a length of 15.00 m has one end
attached to a wall; the other end is draped over a pulley and attached to a
hanging object with a mass of 4.00 kg. If the string is plucked, what is the
fundamental frequency of vibration?

PART-B

4) Suppose that you wish to fabricate a uniform wire out of 2.00 g of

copper. If the wire is to have a resistance of R = 1.00 Ω, and if all of the
copper is to be used, what will be
(a) the length and
(b) the diameter of this wire?take resistivity=1.7x10-8Ωm and density of
copper=8.92x103 kg/m3

5) A metal wire of resistance R is cut into three equal pieces that are then
connected side by side to form a new wire
the length of which is equal to one-third the original length. What is the
resistance of this new wire?

6) The current in a resistor decreases by 3.00 A when the voltage applied

across the resistor decreases from 12.0 V to 6.00 V. Find the resistance of
the resistor.
