For me, Robert Sutton wasn¶t wrong in his idea, because in reality it really has something
to do with a person¶s success rate . The protégés mentioned above from the GE has proven that
they showcase the right amount of attitude because they were able to reach that top position and
is seen depicted by people of the organization. That¶s why I can say that Robert Sutton was right
about how attitude affects a CEO¶s career.

The contrasting fortunes and personalities of the three protégés were definitely not
coincidental. Because the outcomes of their actions vary, just like in Nardelli¶s case which
sources tell that he¶s a proud and has an annoying character, although he managed to keep the
company¶s state in a stable mode but it still lacks some improvements which he did not make
room for. That¶s the reason why Home Depot decided to have a new CEO who would not only
stabilized the company but also to expand its reach towards reaching its goals. As fo McNerney,
he was successful because he was a gentle person that¶s why the employees are also motivated
because he is showing a positive side and it helped the company to achieve financial goals
effectively. And as for Immelt, he was a successful CEO similar to McNerney who has a gentler
side which enables the workers to feel at ease and can do their given tasks accordingly and the
company benefited from it by earning more. So, Sutton was right that if your attitude is friendly
and approachable you won¶t have difficulties in dealing with the employees and it helps boost
performance and this also shows that it may affect their careers base on the attitude that they will
project.

Yes, I believe that being nice varies by both industry and job. Because in every industry
you need a precise amount of being nice and also depends on your personality. To better clarify
this matter we have to compare two different industry, so we can easily distinguish what¶s nice
and how it depends on the type of job. Example is the consulting industry and the accounting
industry. So in here you can see the distinction it really depends on where you are and what you
do, because in every industry you need to position yourself in the right way to attain satisfaction.

For me, I¶d be much more comfortable to work in a company like SuccessFactors
because if I were to work there I can show people who I am. Any position would do because if
the work environment feels nice so does the people especially the higher ups, this trait should
also be adapted by other companies to instill values to employees and this can boost
performance. Any employee would want his or her boss to be nice to him and other people to
help people be more at ease in the workplace. But if I can land a higher ranking job like the
manager or supervisor I would really pay attention on ³niceness´. Because not only the
employees become more sociable it gives others to think why we are working on happily even
though we¶re doing tremendous stressful jobs.

Yes, I think it¶s sort of similar and have a lot of things in common because the other term
for nice is pleasant and agreeableness is acceptable. You can define it by a person¶s appearance
or it¶s naturally instilled if you are sociable and very warm to others you are more likely to gain a
lot of colleagues and can make you be really successful. Because you are able to adapt well in
the environment and in my opinion it is really the same as the Big five trait of agreeableness.

In screening out people who got low scores on agreeableness I think it depends because
a person¶s personality cannot really be base on what is written but what he can do about this
certain situation that would require interaction to fellow workers. Then at this point the person
needs to have a position that is best suited for his personality that doesn¶t require much
socialization like the accounting department and the likes. It also differs because some people
who scored high on agreeableness are not as productive as you thought they¶d be in the end,
because they¶re focus would be on pleasing other people and not be more creative in helping the
company to progress.

In Sutton¶s idea he mentioned that being ³nice´ is an important factor for organizations to
achieve their goals and to be successful. Entrepreneurs are soloists in my opinion, because they
manage the business single handedly but sometimes with the help of partners. But the main thing
is maybe they scored low in these tests because it¶s like a one man show unlike in companies
they need to interact with one another by teamwork. And also the fact that they are the ³bosses´
of their own that¶s why they really do not need to please their co-workers and they focus more on
achieving the goals that they want unlike if you¶re a manager of a certain company you need to
be socially inclined with others to achieve better work performance.
