Dalton (1808)

-Ê {tomic theory
-Ê ©lements are made of atoms.
-Ê {toms had identical properties and mass, from the
same element.
-Ê This proposed that the elements were to be aligned
due to their atomic mass, comparatively to the
lightest element which is hydrogen.

Dobereiner (1829)

-Ê Put forward ͚law of triads͛

-Ê The grouping of three elements of similar chemical
and physical properties.
-Ê For example: Lithium, Sodium, potassium all had
similar chemical and physical properties.

Newlands (1863)

-Ê Put forward ͚law of octaves͛

-Ê If the elements were arranged according to
increasing mass, there was a repetition of every
eighth element.Ê

Mendeleev (1869)

-Ê Put forward periodic law

-Ê If arranged accordingly, elements of similar chemical
and physical properties occur at regular intervals.

Moseley (1914)

-Ê {ffirmed the modern periodic law

-Ê When elements were arranged accordingly of
increasing atomic number, it was evident there was
a repeating pattern of properties.
-Ê The modern periodic table, position elements in
groups and periods.
