Definition of puppetry
Puppetry is an education cum
entertainment aid, In which a doll is
dressed as a character in the story &
manipulated by the puppeteer.
Puppetry
Purposes
1. To motivate the students
2. To create interest
3. To add sense of humor
4. To exemplar people’s behaviour in real
life.
5. To make us reflect on what is good &
bad for health .
Puppetry
TYPES PATTERNS:
• String puppets or • Stick puppets
marionettes
• Sock puppets
• Shadow Puppets
• Paper bag puppet.
• Hand Puppets
• Tube finger puppet
• Simple finger puppet
• Flannel mitten puppets.
Puppetry - Principles
1. Actions accompanied by short dialogue - easily
understandable.

2. Plays must be based on action rather than words.

3. At the most 4 characters are recommended.

4. Main problem or question - introduced in the


beginning & answer - come out at end.

5. Size of audience - 20 people.


Puppetry – The show
• Select the story dialogues & action

• Draw or paint the scenery / background

• Prepare the puppets.

• Choose a good place to show the puppets

• Encourage audience participation &


discussions.
Puppetry - Advantages
• Dramatization with amusement & entertainment
• The learning experience livens up.

• Visually emotive, exciting & easy to grasp.

• As a tool for communication

• Cost – effective

• It is useful for illiterate people

• Puppets add sense of pretending & humor


Puppetry - Disadvantages
• It cannot be used for a large group

• Some teachers don’t want to perform

• Puppets are seen as extras or a supplemental

• Puppets shows are juvenile

• The class may waste precious time
