The latest Spring 2008 Couture shows have demonstrated plenty of 1930s - 40s elegance and

Art Deco-inspired elements.

Art Deco details from Chanel and Armani Prive couture

Chanel used sequinned and beaded fans on dresses, while Armani Prive carried distinctly deco
shapes on belt buckles and dress centre-pieces. (Spring 2008 Couture show)
Scottish designer, Holly Fulton, graduated 10 years ago from Edinburgh College of
Art with a BA in Fashion and after graduating in 2007 with her MA at the Royal
College of Art in London,  is now showing her latest “art deco style” collection !
Shown as part of Fashion East, she has collaborated with
CRYSTALLIZED Swarovski Elements to help add the extra sparkle to her stand out
collection. Her style reminds me a lot of Mary Katrantzou. See her outstanding first
runway collection video (below)! She’s definitely a designer to watch!
Lakme Fashion Week spring summer 09 saw designer Swapnil Shinde showcase an array
of outfits inspired by art deco constructions and architecture of the '20s. Influenced by
structures like the Chrysler Building and the sight of sky-scrapers "popping out of the
clouds", the garments were defined by pleating, draping and all manner of constructed
detail.

The shape and forms created by these garments are reminiscent of the Art Deco period and a
combintation of elements including archaic Charleston parties. Our future is in the past too. by Yvan
