Gas Turbine Control

System
Control of gas turbine is done by
 Startup control
 Acceleration control
 Speed control (Droop control)
 Temperature control
 Shut down control
 Manual control
Startup Control
 Start up function objective
• Bring the gas turbine from zero speed to full spee
d safely by providing proper fuel to established fla
me and accelerate the turbine safely.
• Minimize the low cycle fatigue of the hot gas parts
during the sequence.
Startup control …..

 Turbine states to rotate

 At about 10 rpm turning device will turn off.
 STARTUP STATUS (in CRT) reads CRANKING.
 SPEED LEVEL (in CRT) changes to 14HR (more
later)
 Turbine accelerates and purging cycle begins.
 Stay at purge speed close to 600 rpm for a period of
time determines by the purge timer setting.
 Following sequence is adopted to achieve the above
objectives
• Master Protective Logic L4 is satisfied (L4 is set to
logic 1).
• Turbine starts to rotate.
• At about 10 rpm turning device will turn off.
• STARTUP STATUS (in CRT) change to CRANKING.
• SPEED LEVEL (in CRT) changes to 14HR (more
later)
• Turbine accelerates and purging cycle begins.
Startup control…..
 Fuel Stroke Reference (FSR) is set to firing value. (Up
until now FSR = 0)
 Ignition sequence is initiated.
 “STARTUP STATUS” (in CRT) Change to FIRING”.
 If firing is successful and all four flames are established, it
indicates (use flame detectors) in CRT with
“#A#B#C#D”. (Need at
least any two flames to continue)
 FSR is set to warm up value.
 “STARTUP STATUS” (in CRT) Change to “WARMING
UP”.
