ARBOR DAY CEREMONY

AT THE JEFFERSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
HIGHLIGHTS ANNUAL TREE PLANTING ACTIVITIES IN THE CITY

On Friday, April 29, 2011, at 11:30 a.m., Mayor Jeffrey E. Graham and members of
the City Council, along with volunteers from Tree Watertown (the City’s Street Tree Advisory
Board), and members of the board and staff from the Jefferson County Historical Society will
gather in the Victorian Garden behind the Jefferson County Historical Society at 228
Washington Street to celebrate Arbor Day.

2011 marks the 14th straight year that Tree Watertown has observed Arbor Day in the
City. Watertown’s Mayor, Jeffrey E. Graham, will lead those gathered in the planting of three
trees and will proclaim April 29, 2011 as Arbor Day in the City of Watertown. Refreshments
will be provided in the Paddock Mansion following the ceremony.

Beginning April 27, 2011 and lasting through May 4, 2011, City Department of Public
Works crews will be planting 100 trees at sites throughout the City including the 700 Block of
Gotham Street, the 300-500 Blocks of Clay Street, Brook Drive, Thompson Park and other
various locations.

On Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 8:00 a.m., the Watertown Noon Rotary Club, in
partnership with the City, will conduct its annual tree planting on Breen Avenue. The Rotary
Club will be planting a total of 50 trees on that day.

The Arbor Day celebration and 2011 spring tree planting is funded in part by a $12,000
grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Urban and
Community Forestry Program through appropriations from the New York State Environmental
Protection Fund (EPF), a generous grant of $2,000 from the Watertown Noon Rotary Club and
funding from the City of Watertown.
