ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?

Questionnaires and surveys...
 Firstly in order to know how to attract
our audience we needed to find out a
little about them first, therefore we
decided to carry out audience research
surveys.
Audience Research

 Looking through our audience research I discovered that many

people found the mis en scene and editing the most important
elements in thrillers. Therefore, to create suspense many
different kinds of edits are included in the opening for the mis
en scene, as a group we attempted to place everything in the
frame in an artistic/ creative way. Through the use of
transitions and techniques available on imovie we were able to
create editing styles that were suitable for the opening.
 We mainly
experimented with
the cross dissolve
and fade out
transitions .

At 1:05 we used a
cross dissolve edit to
indicate a ghostly
presence.
 The majority of people who responded to our
audience research questionnaires were
female so we decided to present our female
character the victim at the start of the
opening. We wanted the audience to
immediately empathise with the victim.
To attract our audience...
 We used a tilted high angle shot at the
start of the opening, we used the
camera to gradually track up the girl’s
body revealing that she is dead;
automatically gripping our audiences
attention.
The blood on her clothing and the
way her body is positioned
hints that this was an unnatural
death.

We decided to position our

actress on the dark concrete as it
highlights the colour of her white
clothing.
