Developing recognition of emotion: sadness (loss of something we value of

someone); fear (of the unknown, of natural forces we don’t control); hostility
(territorial feelings, jealousy, aggression…), love (basic [like of foods] and
sophisticated) [like love of people]), happiness, compassion, confusion;

Confusion leads us to questioning things around us: like why does it rain, why does
the sun shine, where does the sun go at night, why are there seasons (this led to the
development of more formalized religion and mythology);

This leads to a concept of the divine: the belief that, if we don’t control the world
around us, something or someone must (either one presence, or many, male or
female);

People wondered about the relationship between us and the divine: they noticed
that when something/someone died, something was lost (soul: they also reasoned
that there should be a relationship with the divine (worship)

People needed to try to influence the divine in order to get what needed/wanted
(types of worship or ritual);

People reasoned that if they did not maintain a good relationship with the divine,
they would have a bad afterlife led to the development of the concepts
of good and evil, proper afterlife vs. punishment and judgement;

This takes us to the formation of philosophy itself! What are good and evil? What is
the afterlife? What is a good life? Why are we here?
