TOWN CLERK
Annual town elections are on Tuesday, May 10. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Absentee ballots are available now.
The following candidates will appear on the ballot: Board of Selectmen (2): Jane Allen
and David Rempell; Planning Board (1): Keith Davis, Van Ellet, and Elizabeth McGowan; Board
of Library Trustees (2): David Dewey and Kathleen Schultze; Housing Authority (1): Peter
Mehlin. In addition there is a seat on the Elementary School Committee and another on the
Housing Authority with no candidates.
INSPECTION SERVICES
The Spruces Manufactured Housing Community has filed an appeal of the Health
Inspector’s March 25 order to correct deficiencies in the roads at the park. The Board of Health
will hold a public hearing on the appeal on Monday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the municipal building.
PUBLIC WORKS
You probably thought winter was over before it snowed this past weekend. The total
snow and ice expenditure for the 2010-11 winter was $380,569 which is $217,261 over budget.
This past winter is thus the most expensive on record, beating 2008-09 by $18,000.
The Town has been mandated by Mass DEP to file a waste ban modification plan for the
Transfer Station. Effective July 1, 2011 the Town can no longer accept clean gypsum wallboard
at the Transfer Station. The clean wallboard must go to an approved recycling center e.g.
Cambridge, MA.
PUBLIC SAFETY
There were three (3) accidents recorded during this reporting period: one (1) two-vehicle
roadway collision; two (2) single-vehicle off the road.
A total of 79 motor vehicle stops were conducted during the reporting period and 77
citations were issued, recording 100 violations. One hundred fifty-seven (157) parking violations
were written this reporting period.
Since the last reporting period, 5 criminal charges were taken against 3 individuals for the
following:
04/07/11 Warrant Arrest
04/10/11 Negligent Operation of MV; Speeding
04/11/11 MV Lights Violation; Operate MV with License Suspended
Eight hundred ten (810) calls for service were received at the Dispatch Center from
Thursday, April 7, to Thursday, April 21:
