Boil Water Order Village of Cayuga 4.28.11
Boil Water Order Village of Cayuga 4.28.11
Due to high turbidities in the drinking water produced by the Village of Cayuga, a boil
water order was issued by the Cayuga County Health Department on April 28 for the
Village of Cayuga & Town of Aurelius Water District #3 (residents along State Route 90
in the Town of Aurelius). Turbidity is a measurement of water clarity. These high
turbidity levels in the plant are due to elevated turbidity levels in Cayuga Lake following
recent rain events.
Residents of the Village of Cayuga & the Town of Aurelius Water District #3 should not
drink Village water without boiling it first or use bottled water certified for sale by the
New York State Department of Health. Boiled or bottled water should be used for
drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further
notice.
The boil water order will not be lifted until the turbidity returns to appropriate levels and
water samples confirm that there is no contamination in the distribution system.
Currently it appears the boil water order will be in place until at least next week. In the
meantime, the Health Department has asked customers to conserve water so the water
treatment plant’s operation can be reduced.
The public will be periodically updated via the media on this situation. Individuals with
questions may call the Village of Cayuga at 252-1707 or the Cayuga County Health
Department at 253-1405. The most recent press release can also be found on the Cayuga
County website; www.cayugacounty.us/hhs.doh
