Classroom Management Philosophy

It is my belief that students can only learn effectively when they are in an
environment in which they feel safe, safe to participate, safe to make mistakes and safe to
grow as a person. It is then my goal to encourage the students to view our classroom as a
community where each student plays a role in their achievement. It is my goal to help the
students learn how to self monitor their behavior and to encourage them to make decisions
that will help them grow. Until students learn how their actions affect their own learning
and the learning of others, the demands of teachers on their behavior will not be
meaningful. To help encourage this open discussion, as a class we will have discussions
regarding our classroom procedures and expectations. Instead of focusing only on what we
will be doing, we will be discussing why we will be doing it as well. These procedures will
help to prevent the occurrences of misbehavior. They will include preventative discipline
techniques such as:

 ATB (At the Bell) or self starting techiniques

 Defined clear and enforceable rules
 Discussing Logical Consequences
 Maintaining close proximity
 Creating a classroom as a community
 Change the position of the instruction
 Afford students the opportunities to teach the class

If there is an incident of misbehavior in class, or if a problematic behavior becomes

habitual, supportive discipline techniques will be used. These will include:

 Non-verbal reminders or communications

 Verbal corrections
 Enforcing consequences

If necessary, corrective discipline techniques will be used to help the student return to a
more constructive path of learning. These will include:

 Parent teacher conferences

 Behavioral plan
