Institute for Science and Mathematics (ISM)

Requirements by Year

Students are expected to have the following completed for each year. For the Current Perspective Hours,
students must submit complete, written documentation to room 120 before May 1st to remain current in ISM.
Documentation may also be emailed to the ISM Coordinator, Traci Osterahgen at tosterha@pps.k12.or.us.

Freshmen Year Requirements


• 1 math credit
• 1 science credit
• Minimum of 5 credits toward graduation
• Current Perspective Hours
• Student Orientation/Student Meeting
• Service Learning Project -10 hours related to math, science, or technology reflecting service
and personal growth (learning).
• Two Math/Science Speaker Series, Career Fairs, etc.

Sophomore Year Requirements


• 1 math credit
• 1 science credit
• Minimum of 10 credits toward graduation
• Current Perspective Hours
• Student meetings
• Service Learning Project -10 hours related to math, science, or technology reflecting service
and personal growth (learning).
• One Job Shadow in Math/Science/Technology (minimum of 4 hours)
• One Career Fair or Math/Science Speaker Series
• One Résumé

Junior Year Requirements


• 1 math credit
• 1 science credit
• Minimum of 16 credits toward graduation
• Current Perspective Hours
• Student Meetings
• Internship in Math and/or Science (minimum of 40 hours)
• One Math and Science College Tour
• PSAT – Must be completed before start of senior year

Senior Year Requirements


• 1 additional math or science credit
• “C” average or better for your high school career in your math and science courses
• Standard Diploma Criteria
• Earn 24 credits toward graduation
• Current Perspectives Activities
• Student Meetings
