Registration from 8:00 to 8:45 am; Lunch from 12:30 to 1:30
Plenary Session 1, 9:00 to 11:00: The HEARTH Act and how to prepare for
meeting the new HUD community-wide performance standards. Norm Suchar,
National Alliance to End Homelessness.
Plenary Session 2, 11:15 to 12:30: Using HMIS to prepare for new performance
standards: panel discussion with members of 4 WV CoCs, Chris Pitcher (HUD TA
provider) and Loren Hoffman.
Plenary Session 3: 1:30 to 3:00: The US Interagency Council on Homelessness –
how the federal agencies are expecting communities to make progress on ten-
year plans to end homelessness and how you can chart your progress using
HMIS. Laura Zeilinger, US ICH.
Plenary Session 4: 3:15 – 4:15: General Membership meeting, WVCEH.
JUNE 9, DAY TWO

Plenary Session 5: 9:00 to 11:00: Working effectively with mentally ill and sub-
stance abuse disordered homeless clients – a harm reduction/housing first ap-
proach. Dr. Gabor Mate, best-selling author of “In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts,
Encounters with Addiction”.
Plenary Session 6: 11:15 to 12:30: Tracking delivery of services to our clients
and tracking their progress through use of the self –sufficiency matrix in HMIS:
Anna Burns and Zach Brown, WVCEH.
Plenary Session 7: 1:30 to 2:30: Panel discussion of Housing First Model from
Huntington, WV: working to keep our clients housed, tracking client independ-
ence and housing permanency through HMIS.
Plenary Session 8: 2:45 to 4:15: Understanding the Stress-Disease Connection:
Dr. Gabor Mate, best-selling author of “When the Body Says No, The Hidden
Cost of Stress”.
