CoExist Galleries CoExist is pleased to present ‘Fields’, a group exhibition curated by CoExist studio artist
TAP Lee Sullivan, as a part of the ‘Studio Sessions’.
(The Old Water Works)
North Road The exhibition brings together four artists working across collage, drawing, installation, print
Southend-on-sea and video. Strategies of abstraction, appropriation, reorganisation and reconstruction are
Essex SS07AB employed as each artist explores the foundations and possibilities of the visual field.

www.coexist.org.uk Miles Umney builds intricate conceptual structures around stark and poetic filmscapes.
Ideas of history, movement, time and light are threaded together in installations composed
of text, video, readymades and photography.

Lee Sullivan’s use of abstraction evokes the fractured, cut-up nature of modern life. The
landscapes produced by this process are partial and fleeting, appearing at once to grow
and collapse. Sullivan’s fragmentary worlds recall dystopian ruins and construction sites,
crumbling cities and growing worlds.

David Watkins appropriates the visual languages of contemporary science and technology
to produce fluid and spontaneous ink drawings. Images from disparate fields are sampled,
cross-referencenced, overlaid and contrasted to create a new vocabulary, all but emptied
of – although shadowed by - its original meanings and purpose.
