According to the renowned historians,Nagpur was founded by Bakht Buland of the Gond kingdom of the Chinndwara
district. The history of Nagpur says that Raghoji Bhonsle of Vidarbha established himself as the emperor of
Chanda,Chattisgarh and Deogarh in 1743.
In 1755, Janoji became the sovereign of the territory, after his father Raghoji Bhonsle died. Thereafter in 1788,
Janojis son, Mudhoji succeeded his father and conquered a part of the Narmada valley and Mandla under the
territory of Nagpur. Subsequently, Mudhoji’s son, Raghoji annexed the eastern Maharashtra and expanded the
territory of Nagpur further. In 1803, Raghoji II allied with the Peshwas and assisted them in the 2nd Anglo-Maratha
War. But the defeat in the 2nd Anglo-Maratha War forced Raghoji to surrender a part of his territory to British army.
Moreover, in 1816, after Raghoji’s death, Madhoji executed Raghoji’s son. Even though signing a treaty with the
British army, Madhoji joined the Peshwas in the 3rd Anglo-Maratha War and was forced to surrender parts of his
territory to the Britishers who took the charge of the entire territory of Nagpur after Raghoji III died in 1853.
The history says that in 1861 Nagpur became a part of the Central Provinces. And in 1867, the introduction of the
Great Indian Peninsula Railway enhanced the prospects of commerce and trade in Nagpur. After the independence
of India in 1947, Nagpur emerged as the capital of Madhya Pradesh. Finally, in 1960, Nagpur got included in the state
