Dear Friends and Colleagues

The past few weeks have been an extremely busy time for many Conservative Party members and
supporters. All that hard work finally comes to fruition tomorrow when the nation votes to elect their new
Council representatives and vote n the Referendum on our voting system.

I’ve been out and about talking to people on the door steps across the
North West and whilst it’s clear there’s no great appetite for change many
still don’t understand the Referendum proposal and the implication.

Sometimes we become complacent about our political system and it’s easy
to forget that there are still many countries around the world where local
people do not have the chance to make a choice.

Even today, emerging democracies look to copy our voting system, a system
that has stood the test of time and has been copied across the world – 2.4
billion people use our First Past the Post system and only 3 countries have
AV – Australia, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

Whilst we do already use the Proportional Representation system for Euro,

Welsh Assembly and Scottish Parliamentary elections, AV is the worst form
of PR. Even Nick Clegg knows this. What could be fairer and more straight
forward that one man one vote?

Tomorrow we need to make sure everyone who is voting in the local

elections also votes NO in the Referendum. So please encourage all your
friends, neighbours and family to take an extra 2 minutes to mark your
referendum ballot paper and say NO to AV.

P.S If you feel you need any more information take at look at my web site, the
