Chapter 3
Makes reading more interesting
 We make three types of connections between what you already know and what you are
reading
 Text-to-self – link ideas you are reading about to events in your life, personal
connections. A story event of character may remind you of something or someone in
your own life.
 Text-to-world – link ideas you are reading about to events in the “world” – learned both
in and out of school.
 Text-to-text connections – link ideas you are reading to another book, film, or television
show you have seen.

Make connection chart labeled text-to-self, text-to-world, text-to-text.

 Student’s write their connections on post-it notes and post in correct column
