Mary the ant was a hardworking bug.

There wasn’t a crumb that the bug couldn’t lug.

Day in, day out, she brought food to the hill.

All of the ants got their personal fill.

She built the best tunnels and fought the most bees.

On weekends, she cleaned up a playground for fleas!

The colony loved her, except for the queen.

She wasn’t impressed by the “boring cuisine”.

So Mary went off to find queen-worthy treats,

Quite sure this would rival her greatest of feats.

She crawled past the stump and the row of red flowers,

To you it’s not far, but for ants it takes hours.

She camped for the night in a shaky leaf hut,

And sailed cross a pond, in the shell of a nut.

And later she found it, this morsel of food.

“The sweetest crumb ever!” she thought as she chewed.

But on her way home she was stopped by a… something,

A big gooey blobbish, odd-looking dumb thing.

She tried passing by, but it wiggled behind.

She shooed it away, but the blob didn’t mind.

They came to the pond after hardly a while.

The blob followed closely, still wearing a smile.

And then it transformed itself into a ship-

A glorious vessel to aide with the trip!

Mary jumped on, and they sailed to the shore.

Slowly, she started to like the blob more.

Then the blob changed to a fancy ant mansion.

For sleeping, it added a bedroom expansion.

Come morning they both arrived, greeting the queen.

The blob, you may guess, caused a bit of a scene.

The queen called the crumb they had, “Boldly Delicious!”

But towards the poor blob, she was acting quite vicious.

“It’s useless!” she shouted, “it doesn’t belong!”

And that’s when they showed that the ant queen was wrong.

The blob formed a wheelbarrow, fitting more crumbs

Than ten ants could carry on ten separate runs!

Then, Mary used it to tunnel some dirt.

It changed to a shovel, to help with the work.

The queen had no choice but to welcome the blob

Who loved helping Mary the ant do her job.

On weekends, they opened a circus for fleas.

I bet you can’t guess who they used for trapeze…
