Marianne Guffanti, US Geological Survey, Reston VA, USA
Grace Swanson, NOAA Satellite Services Division, Camp Springs MD, USA

This mock abstract is intended to give you an example of the type of abstract you can submit for the
Second International Conference on Volcanic Ash and Aviation Safety. The abstract deadline is 12
April 2004. You must keep your abstract to less than 300 words. The abstract should be single-
spaced, in Times New Roman 12-point font, full-justification, one-inch margins and contained in a
single paragraph with no indents. Special characters and mathematical notations should be kept to a
minimum to avoid translation problems. When you submit your abstract as an email attachment,
please specify the preferred session for your presentation. The sessions are 1: Encounters, Damage,
and Socio-Economic Consequences; 2: The Volcanic Source - Eruption Monitoring and Reporting; 3:
Ash-Cloud Observations and Forecasting; 4: VAAC Operations and Capabilities; 5: Aviation Industry
Perspective. The Organizing Committee looks forward to receiving your abstract and to your
participation in the symposium! (~146 words)
