The prostate is a conical gland that surrounds the urethra in the male reproductive system. It is located in the pelvis below the bladder and above the urethral diaphragm. The prostate has three concentric layers of glands - inner mucous glands, intermediate submucous glands, and outer main glands. It receives its blood supply from the inferior vesical, middle rectal, and internal pudendal arteries and drains into the prostatic venous plexus and internal iliac vein. Nerves are supplied by the superior hypogastric plexus and lumbar and sacral spinal nerves.
