The aids involving the sense of hearing


are called Audio aids. It help the
individuals learn through listening. It
may help in making the impression of
the lesson permanent on the pupils'
mind. The examples of Audio aids are
Radio, Tape-recorder, Gramophone etc.

means of which learning process may be encouraged or carried on

MEANING
Radio broadcasts started in India in 1927 with two privately
owned transmitters at Bombay and Calcutta. The government of
India took them over in 1930 and started operating them under
the name of Indian Broadcasting Service. In 1936, the name of
service was changed to All India Radio (AIR). Since 1957, it has
been known as Akashwani.
A radio is the transmission and reception of signals by
means of electromagnetic waves. Radio listening contributes
immensely to the students fund of information. It is primarily
concerned with the spoken word and resource of inspiration to
speakers.

talent.

The tape recorder is a very useful
teaching device which is gaining
favour with teachers and
educationists.Tape recorders use a
thin piece of metal ,plastic ,or
paper tape.Tape recordings are less
at fault than wire recordings and
have a high longevity.
MERITS
Learning of foreign languages.
Improvement in communication skills.
For improvement in the performance of children who
are retarded in any field.
For recording school assembly programmes.
To recording class discussions and lectures for better
understanding of the pupils.
Rehearsals of school dramatization.
LIMITATIONS
Verbal messages demand a great deal of concentration
by students. Beginners may have some difficulties if
tapes are played for long periods.
They have small loudspeakers.
Most material are predetermine, so that teacher has
few opportunities to make any adaptation or
adjustment to his students’ needs.
If tape recorders got too old or were not maintained
properly, could tangle up the tape inside the machine.

MEANING
The gramophone as an aid is useful. It is
possible to bring music, addresses, textual
materials and particularized instructional
lessons into the classrooms. The teacher can
utilize gramophone records for teaching
good pronunciation, good speech and
correct language. Every school should have a
set of linguaphone records to teach language
correctly.
MERITS
 Good addresses, songs, recitations can be used when
they are wanted.
 Records can be played more than once.
 The teacher knows exactly what the record contains.
 Records are quite cheap.
 The school dramatic club can also make use of
gramophone records.
De-merits
 It cannot record the learner’s voice for purposes of
comparison.

 Many teachers are unaware of these resources.
