Core Technology Standard Five | Productivity Tools

The competent teacher will integrate advanced features of technology-based productivity tools
to support instruction, extend communication outside the classroom, enhance classroom
management, perform administrative routines more effectively, and become more productive
in daily tasks.

Description of the artifact:

This artifact is a screenshot (a printout of the computer screen) showing the creation of a
“page” for my classroom on Facebook. The artifact shows a message board where students
can post their comments questions and concerns about the class. It also gives me the
opportunity to post assignments, events, and resources for my students. There are many
features to this site including listings of appropriate email addresses (created specifically for
student and professional emails), my teaching website, Twitter account, and other web pages
for students.

How this artifact meets the standard:

This artifact allows me to communicate information for my classes over the internet so that
students can access information about what is happening in the classroom. The information
provided on this site will help promote what I am doing in the classroom and allow me to pass
information to students through an interface which most of them are familiar with using.

How this demonstrates my development as a teacher:

This Facebook page demonstrates that I am able to use technology and social networking sites
in order to communicate with students, supplement my students with additional information
outside of the classroom, and do so in a manner which is both appropriate and safe for my
students. Additionally, it proves that I am able to be resourceful in developing new ideas for
my classroom. The hope is that I will continue to progress and adapt to new technologies in
order to better connect with my students.
