"How does your media product use, develop or

challenge forms and conventions of real media

texts?"
CD COVER Using Conventions
The front of this Rihanna CD was inspirational for Deanna and I who
have also chosen to use a close up.

The editing is similar in that it is quite extreme and gives a too perfect
look.

The mise-en-scene of the red lipstick used in both covers is

stereotypically feminine.

Both covers incorporate text in capital letters. This gives the impression
of power and domination.

Developing Conventions
We decided to link the theme of the ancillary and
name of the album with the image on the front of the
CD. To achieve this we used a Belgian bun as a focal
point for the cover.
CD BACK
Kate Nash CD back - 'My Best Friend Is You’

Using Conventions
As you can see, both fonts have a 1920s silent film feel -
continuing the vintage theme which is a predominant
convention in the work of female solo artists such as Kate
Nash.

Developing Conventions
The colouring of the different CD covers is also significant.
While Kate Nash has chosen to use a sophisticated,
understated pink - Deanna and I have taken a more bright
shade of pink as we had decided the song Pumpkin Soup was
upbeat and brash and fitted the 'in-your-face' colouring.
MUSIC VIDEO
Here, you can see the visible similarities between the
two-shot used by Deanna and I and the one used in the
original 'Pumpkin Soup’ by Kate Nash. It's the most
successful shot to use in order to portray the male/female
relationship.

The use of the two-shot allows the female

protagonist to appear powerful – an idea that
we wanted to portray in our music video.
Similarly in Lily Allen’s music video for ‘Not
Fair’ she has used a close-up performance to the
one Deanna and I have.

This shot enables the audience to feel

closer to the performer, as they speak
directly to the camera – involving them in
the narrative.
