AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
 Pattern of poisoning in all the Hospitalized paediatric patients
 SCBMCH Cuttack
 Age, Sex, Areas, Literacy, clinical presentation and out come

MATERIALS AND METHOD


 Prospective study
 Period : Jun 2009 to May 2010
 Children upto 14yrs of age
 Accidental, suicidal or homicidal
 Ingestion of drugs or non-drugs

EXCLUSION CRITERIA
 Food poisoning
 Toxic or idiosynchrotic reaction to the prescribed drugs
 Snake bite

SUMMARY
• Accidental ingestion - commonest
• Kerosene is the commonest accidental poisoning
• Alprazolam and anticonvulsant - medicaments
• For suicidal attempt organophosphorus and Rhodenticide
• Poisonous seeds are in the rural area for suicidal attempt
• Hydrocarbon ingestion causes vomiting and abnormal odour
had better outcome
• Literacy of parents - seeking medical help
• Poor academic performance - suicidal attempts
