Kenya is a divers Country located in the southern great lakes region of east Africa.

Tribes had

migrated from North Africa to Kenya, and after discovering Kenya's rich and fertile lands, more tribes

started pouring in to Kenya; Great Britain decided to take control of Kenya. The British began pitting the

local tribes against one another to gain control of the rich land. Once Britain had land control their

interest was only in building railroad, not improving the social structure of Kenya. The tribes lost their

land and independence. Thus railroads were important for strategic and economic reasons. Kenya is

broken up into four major linguistic groups. Kenyans practice a number of religions; they practice

Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Baha’i. Residents practice other religions but these are the main faiths

of Kenya. Kenya trades two main exports are coffee and tea. The colonization helped to advance Kenya

means for Imports and exports. Furthermore it helped the way in which Kenya’s government operates.

Kenya gained their freedom on December 12, 1963. Elections began for their country in 1962. The

country has had serious problems which have prevented the election process from running smoothly.

Kenya elects a head of state, the president and a legislature. The National Assembly has 224 members.

Two hundred and ten of these members are elected to a five year term. Twelve of the members are

appointed and the remaining two are ex-officio members. Kenya’s desire is to grow as a country,

economically, politically and socially.
