Measurement

Please Note: This is an assessed piece of homework. The completion and


handing in on time of this project will contribute 5 marks towards your
son’s end of year report card mark.
Hand your completed assignment back to your teacher on or before
Saturday 28th May. Marks will be deducted for late submission.

This math project is to help the students apply their knowledge of


measurements to the world around them.

Part 1: Measuring Length in Centimetres (cm)

Find a cereal box in your home.

Write the name of the cereal you found on the line below,
(for example, Coco Pops)

Using a centimetre ruler measure the height of the cereal and record it below.

Part 2: Measurements of Weight in grams (g) or kilograms (kg)

Look at the label of a used food product (for example a


chocolate bar, tinned vegetables or a bag of rice). Find where
it says the weight of the product. This can be in grams (g)
or kilograms (kg). Cut out and stick here the part of the label
where it says the weight.

For example, I found this on my Kit Kat wrapper.

You have to find two different labels showing weight.

Part3: Measurements of Capacity in Litres (L) or Millilitres (ml)

Look at the label of a liquid food or drink product


(for example a bottle of water, a can of soup or a
milk bottle label). You could also look at the labels of
liquid cleaning products like shampoo or soap but
please ask an adult to help you when you do this
as some liquids can be harmful to you.

Find where it says the capacity of the product, i.e. how much
liquid it will hold. This may be in litres (L) or millilitres (ml).
Cut out and stick here the part of the label that says the capacity.

For example, I found this on my water bottle label.

You have to find two different labels showing capacity.
