NEWS RELEASE from the Maine Department of

Public Safety

from Spokesman Steve McCausland--626-3811 -

office

Maine State Police say they believe they know the identity of the young
boy found in South Berwick Saturday afternoon. Positive identification
will be made by the Maine State Medical Examiner's Office . The
identification of the child will be released after the family of the boy has
been notified.

State Police detectives have worked virtually around the clock since the
body was found late Saturday afternoon and are appreciative of the
assistance given by New Hampshire and Massachusetts State Police, as
well as other police agencies around New England. In addition we are
extremely thankful for the hundreds of tips, phone calls and e-mails that
we received in the past four days from around Maine and across the
country.

At this stage, Maine State Police will continue to work closely with our
counterparts in New Hampshire and Massachusetts as this investigation
moves forward. The case is now being taken over by the New Hampshire
Attorney General's Office which is not expected to make a statement until
Thursday.
