This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter of September loth regarding the' donation from the Sir Oorab]i Tata Trust to the hospital in Perambalur. I will certainly ensure that Mr. A. N. Singh responds to your letter.

AS far as this particular donation is concerned, I wisnto inform you that-we have never made a grant Qf this size to any external recipient in the Trusts' history. Grants of this maqnitude have been given only on a 'few,occasions to projects sponsored by and under the control of the Trusts, The grant to the.' .' Perarnbalur Hospital was given as a very 'special case, after considerable, ' deliberation amongst the Trustees, which include independent persons. The

. conditions under which the disbursements would be made are in consonance with the mandate of the Trust management, recognizing that it is a public trust which is subject to scrutiny from the Charity Commissioner. in its pursuit of deserving charitable causes, which: must 'be registered, charitable organizations eligible for income tax exemption.

The Trust will not be able to deviate from the disbursement mandate that has

been in force tor several decades. However, the Trust wil], ,I am 'sure, be ' -. prompt in disbursements to the hospital' authoritywhich I trust meets the'

registered charity criteria, against agreed mllestones for the development and "
