Purpose
This product is presented by our group for the purpose
of producing nutritious pastillas made of amplaya.
Other purposes:
-to know the important components of ampalaya that
makes it nutritious
-to answer the question, “can the bitter taste of ampalaya
be lessened when mixed with milk
-to know what is the level of acceptability of the product
to the consumers considering its taste and odor
Procedure
Materials:
Fresh ampalaya
½ cup of ground ampalaya
½ cup of Alaska Condensed Milk
½ cup of Alaska Evaporated Milk
3 cups of Nido Full Cream Powdered Milk
Water Cellophane (cut into squares)
Procedure
1. Prepare ½ cup of ground ampalaya
- buy regular sized ampalaya and wash it carefully
with running water
- grind it at least up to ½ cup
2.Boil the ½ cup of ground ampalaya in
Alaska Evaporated Milk for 5 minutes
and set aside to cool
3. Then after it cools down, mix it with Nido Full Cream
Powdered Milk and Alaska Condensed Milk until
well blended
4. Form mixture into desired shape and
wrap it with cellophane paper
Conclusion
Ampalaya indeed has its values in the medical field, its
proven to:
Control blood sugar levels (diabetic patients) because
it contains phyto-nutrient, polypeptide-P; a plant
insulin known to lower blood sugar levels. In addition
it also contain hypoglycemic agent called charantin.

The bitter taste of ampalaya can be masked when
mixed with milk
